    Florida’s Educational Standards

At Educational Horizons, we believe that transparency and partnership are key to your child’s success. That’s why we’re excited to highlight CPALMS, the Florida Center for Instructional Technology, a free, state-supported online resource designed to empower parents, teachers, and students with clear insights into Florida’s academic standards.

Developed by the Florida Department of Education, CPALMS aligns directly with the Florida Standards for subjects like English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies—ensuring that what your child learns in our K-6 classrooms meets rigorous, grade-appropriate benchmarks. Whether you’re curious about what your kindergartner should master in phonics or how your fifth grader builds algebraic thinking, CPALMS makes it easy to explore these expectations without the guesswork.

Navigating CPALMS is straightforward and parent-friendly, putting a wealth of resources right at your fingertips.

Start by visiting the Standards Search page, where you can filter by grade level (from PreK through 12, with plenty of K-6 options), subject area, and even specific topics.

For example, select “Grade 3” and “Math” to view benchmarks like understanding place value or basic addition and subtraction strategies.

Each standard includes plain-language descriptions, real-world connections, and links to lesson ideas, videos, and printable activities that reinforce classroom learning at home. It’s not just a list—CPALMS offers “Perspective for Parents” sections that explain how these standards support lifelong skills, like critical thinking and problem-solving, tailored to your child’s developmental stage.

We encourage you to bookmark CPALMS and check it out during back-to-school planning or whenever you’d like to support your student’s growth.

If you have questions about how these standards play out in our curriculum or need help getting started, our teachers are always happy to chat—feel free to reach out at the next PTO meeting or via email. Together, let’s turn standards into stepping stones for your child’s bright future!

    Montessori Training

Teachers and staff at Educational Horizons Charter School kicked off the 2025-26 school year with an inspiring two-day training on Montessori philosophy and methodology.

Led by Suzanne Tipton, Program Director for the The Institute of Montessori
Training, our team explored new strategies to bring into their classrooms and had the chance to practice them with peers in a true Montessori setting.

It was an energizing start to the year — filled with learning, collaboration, and excitement for what’s ahead!

  • Coin Drive

    Coin Drive

In November, our PTO hosted its annual Coin Drive to support future school projects. Each classroom collected spare change, with the top-earning class winning a $25 Amazon gift card and the chance to pie Mr. Galloway in the face! Thanks to our generous families, we raised an impressive $1,223, with Room 8 contributing $314.89.

Congratulations to Ms. Murphy and Mrs. Saldanha’s class for their victory—and for pieing our brave principal! Thank you to everyone who participated!

  • Parent Participation Night

    Parent Participation Night

In November, we hosted two events showcasing the Montessori method in action.

On November 12th, parents were invited to observe students demonstrating their activities throughout the school before the monthly PTO meeting.

On November 21st, our Kindergarten class held a Parent Participation Night. Each child welcomed one parent into the classroom to experience a Montessori lesson. Students guided their parents through 2–3 activities from their work plan, simulating their daily routine from arrival to departure. This event allowed parents to see their child as a leader and gain insight into the Montessori approach.

We deeply appreciate the efforts of our families, students, teachers, and staff in making these events a success!
