  • Parent Participation Night

    Parent Participation Night

In November, we hosted two events showcasing the Montessori method in action.

On November 12th, parents were invited to observe students demonstrating their activities throughout the school before the monthly PTO meeting.

On November 21st, our Kindergarten class held a Parent Participation Night. Each child welcomed one parent into the classroom to experience a Montessori lesson. Students guided their parents through 2–3 activities from their work plan, simulating their daily routine from arrival to departure. This event allowed parents to see their child as a leader and gain insight into the Montessori approach.

We deeply appreciate the efforts of our families, students, teachers, and staff in making these events a success!

  • Montessori is All-Encompassing

The Montessori method is considered all-encompassing because it is a “whole child” approach that fosters development in all areas—cognitive, emotional, social, and physical—from birth to early adulthood.

It’s based on a philosophy that nurtures the child’s natural curiosity and desire to learn, emphasizing independence, problem-solving, and a respect for self, others, and the environment within a structured, yet flexible, learning environment.

Key Aspects of the Montessori Approach

    • Whole Child Development: The Montessori method is designed to support the holistic growth of every child, encompassing their intellectual, emotional, social, and physical needs.
    • Follows the Child: The core philosophy is to “follow the child,” respecting each child’s unique individuality, natural drive to learn, and individual pace of development.
    • Nurturing a Love of Learning: Montessori education aims to instill a lifelong love of learning and to help children become thoughtful, engaged, and independent members of society.
    • Prepared Environment: Classrooms are carefully designed with hands-on materials and specific areas for different subjects, creating a rich and stimulating environment where children can explore.
    • Freedom Within Limits: Children have the freedom to choose their own activities and work at their own pace but within a framework of clear limits and expectations.
    • Teacher as a Guide: Teachers act as guides and mentors rather than traditional instructors, observing students and providing support to help them take ownership of their learning.
    • Community and Social Development: Montessori classrooms are often multi-age, fostering collaboration, respect for others, and social skills as younger children learn from older ones, and older children teach and help younger ones.
    • Care for the Environment: Children are taught to care for themselves, their classmates, and the classroom environment, developing a sense of responsibility and empathy.

  • Meet Officer Popa our New SRO

Welcome to our school! Meet Officer Popa, he is our new SRO. Each day that our children are in school, this officer will be there to keep them safe, watch over the school, and be available to listen to their concerns. A full time West Melbourne Policeman, he has been in law enforcement for over 6 years. The students are getting to know him more each day.

Officer Popa has a three year old daughter of his own and loves working with kids. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf. When you see him, introduce yourself and let him know how happy we are to have him as one of our team members.

  • We Are Ready

Our teachers look forward to meeting their students. Come by and drop off you supplies, meet your teacher, and make sure your paperwork is in for the start of school. The two opportunities are: Wednesday, August 8th from 5-6 pm or Thursday, August 9th from 10-11 am. School begins for grade 1-6 on Friday, August 10th.

Please note this will be a dress down day and NOT an early release day. Kindergartners will come on Friday or Monday for their KLS screening.

  • Campus Clean Up

Campus Clean up was a great success today. Thank you to the parents, students, grandparents, teachers, and staff who gave of their time to spread a mountain of mulch! They also helped up clean gardens, trim trees, and neaten up the area. Most importantly, they modeled to their children how to take care of their school grounds. Maria Montessori once said, “The child should live in an environment of beauty…” We strive to make that possible with your help.

  • PTO Meetings

As part of our school family, you are a member of PTO. We will introduce our teachers and SRO, vote on a PTO board, and tell you about volunteering at our school. Childcare is available for children 3 and over.

Families from EHCS and Country Day are invited to participate.
