Our PTO and chairs treated guests to an endless taco bar, signature cupcakes, Incredible Pets donated pets and habitats for our raffle, Rick Lorraine was honored as volunteer of the year, and our students entertained us with their talents.

The final act was the “Three Amigos” showing off their dance moves in baby style!

    Project Earth Club Meeting

“Cool”, “Wow”, “I want to do this again!”…. these were the comments at the end of our first Project Earth club meeting.

    Project Earth Club Meeting

Fifteen of our students stayed after school for this experience. They planted a butterfly plant to take home, did a nature walk and collected species to identify, and held a local creature that slithers.

We are planning one more this year on April 27th. A few spots remain for new or returning students. Forms are available in the office.

Congratulations to our four candidates for the Southern District Science Fair!

Each won first place at the school level for their division and grade. Next they displayed their projects and met with judges for an interview. 100% of those invited to the event received medals! We are all so very proud of their accomplishments.

Ethan in grade 5 did a biological project entitled, “Pump it Up!” He focused on heart rate when swimming compared to at rest. He earned a fifth place medal for his efforts.

Connor in grade 6 put together an environmental project about evaporation rates and creatively looked at how to keep water in large areas constant. His impact on the environment earned him first place in his division as well as Harris Best of Show!

Anthony in grade 5 also did an environmental project focusing on the Indian River Lagoon. His project entitled, “The Eutrophication of our Estuary”, looked at sea lettuce and the effect of fertilizer in the water. He earned first place for his project.

Lucas in grade 4 developed a biological project looking at bacteria in the mouths of dogs, cats and humans. He earned a fourth place medal for his project.

Thank you to their families for the support needed to earn this success.

  • EHCS Students & Families Learn About Conservation

EHCS Students & Families Learn About Conservation

Tim & Anna from Project Earth visited our Kindergarten classroom earlier in the month and also came to our March PTO meeting to share how they can help teach students about conservation, ecology, and nature.

They provide after school programs and clubs for students in grades 1-6. These experienced naturalists shared native plants, butterfly eggs, living creatures and hands on items from nature for students and families to touch and experience.

The students and families got a close look at the “creature of the month” and hands on artifacts. Our PTO was alive with activity and enthusiasm for having them return for a couple of after school events.
